The Widows Guild
Please join me in congratulating Anna Castle on the publication of the third book in her Francis Bacon Mystery series, The Widows Guild! I was honored to work with Anna on a developmental edit and a copyedit, and I designed the cover. Anna's first book in this series, Murder by Misrule, was named one of Kirkus Reviews' Best Indie Books of 2014! This third installment is another winner full of wit, history, and mystery, in which Francis Bacon comes up against his most formidable opponent yet: his aunt, Lady Elizabeth Russell. (That's her on the cover!) Here's the book description:
Lady Alice appeals to the Andromache Society, the widows’ guild led by Francis Bacon's formidable aunt, Lady Russell. They charge Bacon with getting the new widow out of prison and identifying the real murderer. He soon learns the viscount wasn’t an isolated case. Someone is murdering Catholics in London and taking advantage of armada fever to mask the crimes. The killer seems to have privy information — from someone close to the Privy Council?
The investigation takes Francis from the mansions along the Strand to the rack room under the Tower. Pulled and pecked by a coven of demanding widows, Francis struggles to maintain his reason and his courage to see through the fog of war and catch the killer.
The Widows Guild is available now in print and ebook formats on Amazon. Add it to your shelves on Goodreads, and check out Anna's website, where she blogs about Francis Bacon and writing historical fiction set in Tudor England.
